SIA course costs in 2025

The Security Industry Authority (SIA) sets the standards for security professionals to ensure they have the skills and knowledge to perform their roles effectively. At Stonewall Security, we pride ourselves on all our security personnel being SIA-trained and accredited. Not only do all of our officers have an SIA licence, meaning they are trained to the highest quality, but our team’s experience is also reinforced by regular ex-police officer-led training. Whether you’re looking to get your first license or need to renew your existing one, understanding the SIA course costs in 2025 is essential.

It’s important to remember that training and license fees can vary depending on your role, location and provider. But as a guide, here is a breakdown of the costs.

SIA licence application fees

Whether you’re applying for a new license or renewing one, the standard fee in 2025 is £184 and is paid directly to SIA when you make the application. The license lasts for three years and is separate from any training costs, background checks or other costs. Before you can apply for a license, you must first complete a relevant training course.

SIA training course costs

Prices for SIA training courses may vary depending on your location, the type of license you need and the training provider. Below are some of the most common courses available and the cost and duration for each.

  • Door supervisor training: Obtaining this certification allows you to work in a range of security roles and covers conflict management, physical intervention and emergency procedures. It typically costs £239.99 and takes six days to complete.
  • Security guard training: This is a four-day course that costs around £189.99. It is a popular course for those working as security guards in retail or office buildings.
  • CCTV operator training: This course is essential for anyone working in surveillance. It covers the legal use of CCTV systems, monitoring procedures and operational guidelines. It takes three days to undertake and costs £219.99.
  • Close protection training: This course is more advanced and is aimed at those working as bodyguards or high-level security professionals. It can take 16-19 days to complete and costs anywhere between £1,000 and £3,000.

Additional costs for SIA training

In addition to the license and course costs, there are several other costs associated with SIA training that you should consider. These include:

  • Background checks
  • First aid certification
  • Travel and accommodation
  • Retake fees

Can I get funding for SIA courses?

While SIA training requires an initial investment, the long-term career benefits far outweigh the cost. Being SIA-certified not only increases job opportunities but can also lead to higher earning potential.

Here are the ways you can pay for your SIA training:

  • Self-fund your training costs and license fee
  • Your employer may sponsor you to train
  • It may be possible to apply for a government scheme
  • Some training providers offer payment plans to help spread the costs.
